Frequently Asked Questions About Roller Blinds

What is the widest roller blind you can do?

The maximum fabric width most roller blind fabrics come in is 3000mm. (3 metres), So something like a standard sliding door is no problem for a roller blind to fit along the top. There is a new range of roller blind fabric that now spans 3200mm wide. It has limited roller blind fabric colours, but they are usually the most popular roller blind fabrics.   It will be a heavier than most roller blinds and will require a bigger roller blind tube or maybe even motorisation.

We make loads of roller blinds this wide in our factory at Wyoming and have a huge range of  roller blind fabrics available. It is possible to make a roller blind wider than 3200mm wide, but it will be very big tubes (to carry the weight of the fabric so it doesn't bow) and it may mean there is a join in the fabric.  Although we don't make them locally we have access to internal roller blinds that can span as wide as 5400mm but they will require motorisation as they are quite heavy. It is always an option to have 2 roller blinds linked together but still operating from one side on the change.

Roller Blinds have many options for fabrics, colour, style, size, operation and motorised. Available for a range of budgets

What is the best blockout roller blind?

We have a huge selection of blockout roller blind fabric in many different colours, textures and price ranges.

Our affordable easycare range "Ocean Beach Blockout" has been hand selected by Premier Shades for our everyday use Roller blind BLOCKOUT fabric. It has over 28 matt finish blind colours, many of them the same colours as the popular Dulux colour paint colours.

It is Lead free and PVC free and complies with the Building Code of Australia. It has accreditation for use in senstive areas like schools and healthcare facilities. We think its great value for money.

Because we make our roller blinds here in our factory at Wyoming, Central Coast we keep in stock the most popular roller blind fabric colours.

Whilst the fabric is still 100% blockout, remember you will still get a light gap down the sides of the roller blind where the brackets are.  Some of the more premium blockout fabric are extra thick with a flocked back for added insulation.

Blockout Roller Blinds offer a great option for light sleepers and day time sleep with a great range of colours and price

What is a day/night roller blind?

There are many names for a Day/Night Roller Blind, or dual roller blind.  It is when there are two roller blinds fitted within the one window.

Often a screen roller blind for during the day, and a blockout roller blind at night. The specialized roller blind brackets we use are streamlined so they fit neatly against the window frame.

Many people use a roller blind screen fabric like One Screen during the day.It reduces the heat and the glare coming into the room but still allows you to see really clearly out.  It DOES NOT make your room dark. It is also great for privacy during the day as people outside cannot see in.

Unfortunately it works in reverse at night. That is why it is ideal to have the blockout roller blind for the evenings.  Many of our clients choose a textured blockout blind to add another layer of warmth to the room and the textured fabric look really cosy when the evening light hits or lamps them.

Having two roller blinds in one window offers you an added layer of insulation. Dual roller blinds CAN be motorised.

Day/Night or dual roller blinds where two blinds within one window - one light screen blind for day and one blockout blind

Thinking of a motorised roller blind?

Premier Shades are blind motorisation specialists.  In fact they are the ONLY Gold Licenced Somfy automation dealer on the Central Coast.
This means they are trained in blind automation and can advise you on all your motorisation needs.

The 5 main benefits of motorising your blinds:-

  1. Convenience: With the simple touch of a button you can move your blind to where ever you like. Especially if the blind is one you wind up and down every day, or several times a day.  It's just a matter of pushing a button and it will glide up or down without you having to stand their pulling chains up and down.  You can also add sensors and timers so your products work for your even when you are not at home.Motorising Roller Blinds offers convenience, energy efficiency, less wear and tear, and are safer with no cords hanging

  2. Energy Efficiency: Reduce your energy usage by controlling the amount of heat and light entering your home.  Keep your home cool in summer by reflecting the harsh heat of the sun but allow the sun in during winter to enjoy natural warmth and light.

  3. Longer Lifespan: Manual operation a blind can mean touching it more. Often daily, which is general wear and tear.  If a blind is not used correctly used manually they may yank at it and break it.  Motorisation works well in areas that there are multiply users like offices or holiday homes.

  4. Safety: Loose cords and chains are a danger to young children.  With Somfy automated blinds there are no hanging cords or chains.  This will provide peace of mind and makes them idea for children's bedrooms.

  5. Quiet and Discreet: Somfy's world leading motors are fully concealed inside the tube of the blind.  With the simple press of the remote control you will enjoy the ambience and impress your guests with a quiet and sophisticated automated system.

Premier Shades is the local expert in Motorization.  They have battery powered motorization (no electrician required) available from an extra $350 per blind, or Somfy 240 volt motorisation for a similar amount, but it does also require the cost of an electrician on top.
